Another TNC Athlete Spotlight!
I ran a 5K this past December and hit under 8 minute miles –that felt awesome! And of course I definitely plan to improve on that one as well. Not bad, considering a couple years ago I couldn't run more than a quarter of a mile at a time.
I also plan to run my first marathon this year and compete in a few short distance triathlons. I did a few sprint triathlons last year and was pretty much middle of the pack in my age group. I feel I will definitely improve upon that this year with Nichole’s guidance.
My “dream” would be to hit a 6 minute mile and I don’t care what race it would be – I would be very proud of that.
What keeps you going?
Ok, this is very cheesy but for me running is very spiritual and I do my best meditating when I do my easy runs. What inspires me to “dig deep” and run hard is for the most part - knowing how fortunate and capable I am and not listening to any “negative thoughts” that try to creep in – I embrace the idea of pushing myself – competing with myself – and ALWAYS keep in mind that any pain and fatigue will be worth it with the reward of improvement.
At this time I don’t have a favorite – so I am going to try lots of different races this year and see what it is that strikes my fancy! It’s going to be a fun year for me trying to figure it out.
I started running just several years ago because my children had grown up and left to find lives of their own. So with some encouragement from my best friend I decided I needed to start working on “me” and we started running together, which led to competing together, etc. I had the opportunity to work with Nichole and hear about her tremendous accomplishments from our mutual friend and co-runner John Miller. I then started following her blogs and such – then got very excited to see she was actually taking on training runners – even if they were as old as me. I knew it would be an awesome opportunity to learn how to improve myself as a runner. Plus you can’t help but benefit from her strong positive energy – I was so excited!(OK telling people she‘s my trainer is a little cool too).
Breeding Arabian horses has been a passion and hobby of mine for the past 6 years. I have one foal due on April 6th and you never stop getting excited about the arrival of a new foal.

If it was a nice warm sunny day I would definitely be outside working with the horses or going for a run. If the weather was crappy I would probably prefer to watch old movies and eat junk food – lol! I’m very flexible that way :)
Favorite post workout food?
Well I am definitely a junk food junkie and I struggle with it on a daily basis. But anything chocolate for me I just can’t seem to resist – so post workout - occasionally I will forgo the vegan protein shake and indulge in some chocolate milk after a run – pure heaven.
I have been running in Brooks Ravenna’s this past winter – Bill from the Running Room did a great job of getting me in the right shoes to help me combat some issues I was having. I will definitely stick to 2 pairs of Brooks – one being a little heavier and more stable (Ravenna) to protect me running on the ice and concrete and one that is a little lighter for those hot summer runs (Ghost 6).
I have dabbled in handwriting analysis and can’t help doing it whenever I see someone’s handwriting – so beware – I won’t be able to hold back if I see yours.
